Daciano da Costa was with no doubt one of the most outstanding figures of Portuguese Design during the second half of the 20th century. He worked in several design-related areas and had an extensive professorship at university level.

Daciano da Costa (1930 - 2005) is one of the most outstanding figures of Portuguese Design. Since 1954, he has developed his multiple facets as designer, he was one of the pioneers of industrial design in Portugal and designed for many sectors of the national industry. Graduated in painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (1961), Daciano da Costa abandoned the visual arts to dedicate himself to design. He founded his studio, “Atelier Daciano da Costa” in 1959 and over the decades developed his activity in the areas of interior design, industrial design, furniture design and urban design.

In 2013, after an interregnum of eight years, the “Atelier Daciano da Costa” took on a new direction with Inês Cottinelli, one of his five daughters, with the mission to Preserve, Communicate, and Extend his legacy, allowing the memory of Daciano to endure nationally and internationally. The reissues of classic pieces, that were originally conceived by Daciano da Costa for specific works, aim to revalue objects that can be introduced today in new environments, both by the hand of professionals and private clients, thus promoting new interpretations of existing objects and keeping alive his legacy.
