"At Origin Made, we believe that design can serve to connect the past and the present, tradition and innovation, the hands of the maker and the mind of the designer."

Established in Porto in 2019 by Cherie Er and Gabriel Tan, with a resolute mission to elevate and preserve craft cultures through contemporary design, Origin Made stands as a testament to the belief that design goes beyond aesthetics – it can manifest as the fusion of culture, identity, and expression.

At Origin Made, they facilitate connections between international designers and skilled artisans who have inherited and perfected craft techniques passed down through generations. This collaboration yields an array of collectible furniture, objects, and lighting that exalt the authenticity of human craftsmanship. By directly engaging with family-operated artisanal workshops, individual artists, and craftspeople steeped in traditional methods, they unlock the essence of local craftsmanship and raw materials, transforming them into distinctive, tangible expressions of art and design.

Central to their design ethos is a delicate equilibrium. They embrace minimalism while daring to be bold, allowing the inherent qualities of natural materials to command attention. Whether it's the serene contours of pure porcelain, the tactile allure of natural travertine and paper cord, the luster of solid brass and aluminum, the earthiness of terracotta, the texture of solid walnut and ash wood grains, or the visual intrigue of colored concrete, each piece celebrates the innate beauty of its medium.

At the core of Origin Made lies a deep-seated belief in pushing the boundaries of design, challenging perceptions, and inviting individuals to perceive the world through the prism of craftsmanship and heritage. They endeavor to forge human connections, craft narratives, and leave an enduring imprint on the ever-evolving landscape of design.
