Born in Brittany, Alan Louis has cultivated a singular approach of a self-taught artist whose aesthetic was shaped outside academic institutions, forged through the discipline of his former career as an officer in the Merchant Navy. Based in Portugal, he develops a universe in which art and design converge around the object. In his Ribatejo workshops, he crafts unique pieces in chamotte stoneware, organic silhouettes sometimes punctuated with wood, metal, or glass. His work is a continual exploration of duality, balance and the tension of materials.
In 2026, Alan Louis unveils his new collections, Era and Narciso. The Era collection explores the graphic aridity of the Ribatejo landscapes, while Narciso pays tribute to the monumental vegetation and enduring architecture of antique palaces. Two distinct expressions, but with a shared standard of excellence. Remaining faithful to his signature, Alan Louis deepens his exploration of materials and explores the subtility of glazing, enriching the dialogue between ceramics and precious textiles such as mohair and velvet. The result is a series of pieces where textures, reflections and craftsmanship merge with a distinctly contemporary sensibility.
