After several years working in architecture, Diogo Amaro spent two years learning from master cabinetmakers at FRESS in Lisbon, specializing in intricate joinery, carving and marquetry techniques. In 2022 , he participated in the Homofaber event in Venice and attended an intensive training program with Japanese master carpenter Takami Kawai and Japanese designer Wataru Kumanu at Domaine de Boisbuchet in France. The following year he was invited to join the Homofaber Guide, curated by the Michelangelo Foundation.
In 2024 he presented his debut collection chicago during Lisbon Design Week. In 2025 he presented materia, first in Porto at Fernando Santos Gallery, and then in Lisbon, both at Lisbon by Design Fair, and Lisbon Design Week. This year he is presenting Fungae, an experimental work shaped by the reaction between oak tannins, vinegar, iron oxide, and black tea. Revisiting 18th-century decorative techniques—marquetry, carving, and ebonization—this body of work explores new ways of approaching these practices through material experimentation and transformation, while opening up different perspectives on their possibilities.
