Landscape Architecture serves as the foundation of Mariana Rola Pereira's background. Following the completion of her Masters, she embarked on a journey to Southeast Asia to partake in a workshop on textiles and ancestral heritage. Upon her return, she established her first independent brand, where she could craft her own objects while delving into handmade techniques. Through this practice, she sought to bridge her heritage with her personal expression, drawing inspiration from her cultural roots, memories, and life story.
The Arraiolos stitch holds a special place in her heart, evoking memories of her move from Macau to Portugal at the age of 11. This particular memory became a significant source of inspiration, leading her to utilize the Arraiolos stitch as a means to narrate stories. While her primary medium is wool, she finds the textile realm to be a rich resource for her creative expression.
Working independently grants her the freedom to explore and create, fostering diversity in her artistic endeavors. Currently, she is immersed in a special project that feels like a full circle moment. Her educational background not only enhanced her ability to perceive the world around her but also equipped her with valuable tools for designing and translating concepts into embroidery pieces.
Furthermore, she is dedicated to exploring various ways of incorporating the Arraiolos stitch into wearable art, presenting it as a unique form of expression. Lastly, she is thrilled to unveil a new body of work and collaborations, where everyday objects are transformed into distinctive tapestries.
