A designer with a deep appreciation for materiality and craftsmanship, Rosana Sousa honed her skills in woodworking and furniture design through years of hands-on experience. Her practice is rooted in a commitment to sustainability and innovation, shaped by her background in design and a profound respect for Portugal’s artisanal heritage.
She presents a curated collection of collectible pieces, meticulously crafted from repurposed solid walnut and oak wood. Sourced locally from surplus materials at a furniture factory in Porto, her work blends visual and graphic language with functional furniture. Through the synergy of traditional woodworking techniques and modern manufacturing, she transforms reclaimed timber into one-of-a-kind pieces that honor Portugal’s rich woodworking heritage.
Each piece features handcrafted striped panels, assembled through a meticulous process of cutting and joining timber offcuts into volumetric structures. This approach maximizes material use while creating a distinctive patchwork aesthetic that highlights the natural beauty of the wood. Her collection, which includes a chair, counter stool, side table, coffee table, and vase, balances hard and soft elements, bringing warmth, texture, and durability to contemporary living spaces.
By breathing new life into discarded materials, Rosana Sousa reinterprets sustainability through timeless design, crafting heirloom-quality pieces that endure for generations.
