Ten years ago, Julie de Halleux moved to Portugal with her family, captivated by the beauty of Lisbon and its historic yet timeworn buildings. Before settling in the Portuguese capital, she spent several years in finance before transitioning into real estate, where she developed high-end projects characterized by a strong aesthetic vision.
Her passion for Portuguese craftsmanship and design quickly took root as she discovered the country’s wealth of artistic talent. This fascination led her to establish Lisbon by Design in 2021, an annual fair that has since become a must-visit event for design and craftsmanship enthusiasts. Showcasing both emerging talents and renowned artists, the event highlights unique, one-of-a-kind pieces created exclusively for the occasion.
Julie also played a key role in the creation of Lisbon Design Week, further solidifying Lisbon’s position on the international design map. Beyond the fair, Lisbon by Design now offers private monthly studio visits, providing an exclusive insight into the creative worlds of Portuguese artisans and designers.
Today, Julie de Halleux is also a curator for design and craft events, bringing her expertise and refined aesthetic sensibility to projects that celebrate the intersection of tradition and innovation. She continues to shape Portugal’s design landscape, breathing new life into the country’s rich artisanal heritage while fostering contemporary creative expression.
